The guy offers to take me on a tour of the property. It was then that the woman warned that when the wind is blowing north to avoid the electric company across the street because of the giant active toxic black cloud that reaches out to envelope (and kill?) the unwary. I noticed its pulsing blackness and it reminded me that I remembered seeing this when I lived in Monroe as a child and it caused terror in me. (It does not exist). I start touring the property with this guy and I start to notice the property is surrounded by oil refineries and many old out of use factories. The guy takes me inside the factories and starts rummaging through and taking things that did not belong to him. I asked him what he was doing and he said, the owners hire security who are constantly trespassing on his property so he feels it is fine to take what he wants. Nobody is using this stuff.
After exploring for a while, we get into his derelict jet plane which he uses to get around. It makes about 400 miles per gallon as long as you use diesel but he was thinking about getting rid of it (for one thing it has no cockpit cover). Somehow we end up being chased on foot inside one of the factories by security guards in black vested military garb. Maybe because my guide stole things? We get to the end of the factory and are almost at the manor when we are blocked by a number of guards. Most of them leave, but we are searched. One asks me, what is this you stole? I look and I am holding an old map. I tell him, I don't know how this got in my hand, It wasn't there a second ago. He chuckles, right. He unrolls it and it is an old map of the State of Alaska inked in red.
We go back to the house and I ask to see the electric bills. The lady of the house says no problem. I start going though them and it is very difficult to tell what they are paying monthly for electric. I see the bill is split for the man and for the lady. The lady tells me that the guy's bills are so high because he throws grill parties nightly and has all the lights on. I ponder the bill for the longest time, it is mostly in units of energy used with complex formulas. Near as I can tell they are paying around $5,000 per month for electricity which puts the house outside my ability to afford. I go out to the back yard and sit on a mountain peak surrounded by water and watch as the pretty green clouds turn white, and then shoot past my face in a manor that is dizzying. It is peaceful here. But I am worries I may fall off my perch and fall into the chasm below.
I go back into the house and notice the ceilings are decorated with paper birch logs nailed to pallets which are nailed to the the plywood ceilings. So ends the dream.
