It's been a long road. I started my AA degree in Miami in 1987. I started my BA at Eastern Michigan in 1993 and finished my BA in 1997 but took graduate course work at two different universities from 1998-99. I hired in at the University of Michigan in 1999 and started taking teacher certification classes in 2005. It's a good think I love to learn!
I found out Tuesday that the paperwork for student teaching in January was due in two weeks. I started to freak out, but scheduled an appointment with an adviser. I found out today that I am on track and just need to fill out some forms. Then in the Fall I need to certify for the state History and Social Studies exams. I will also need to take a hearing test (what???), CPR certification, First Aid certification and brain surgery certification (just kidding...I think). I'm still torn because I have a decent university job that I like and which is pretty safe from economic collapse, however I will never make good money here. Teaching is what I am good at and that is a skill I seldom get to use at the University. The world is in constant change and you must be ready to change with it or you will get left behind.
