Chiana had two sets of two babies for a total of four. One died shortly after emerging from her pouch. Aku, a male, Tengu and Babagenush, females are her children. Tengu and Baba would steal her food all the time. After the four babies were born we decided not to breed them again. Chiana was not known for her grooming habits and was often the scruffiest of our gliders. Her tail was always somewhat unkept, but she used it to gather leaves and toilet paper rolls which she would deposit in her hanging hammock nest. Once per month, Chiana would wail in a primal mating cry all night long. Once you've heard that call you will never be the same. She loved melon and pinenuts most, and would ususually be the first glider to get up while it was still daylight to sample the evening meal.
We don't know why Chiana started to get sick a few weeks ago. She was seven years old, but our male Fizzy is eight and he is healthy. Gradually she got more sick. At one point it seemed she had recovered. As late as Saturday she was still eating, but had to be fed by hand. Sunday around 10pm as Zoe was patting her and trying to coax her to eat, her little body couldn't take anymore and she stopped breathing. RIP Chiana. You were a memorable pet!
