I didn’t lose respect for Americans that day, it was the days after, when we blindly accepted the lies that got us into war, later saying how could we know they were lying. I guess that made me really angry, because many of my liberal friends did know we were being lied to, but nobody was listening. It was the days when the media refused to show Americans protesting the Patriot Act and Military Commissions act, the days of torture that is not torture, the days of impeachment is off the table when I despaired.
What have we become? Where is the goodwill the rest of the world felt for us on 9/11? Goodwill was squandered in our need for revenge, our need for justice at all cost. We have not climbed out of the Abyss with “Hope and Change”, instead we have legitimized the dark days of the Bush era…in fact we are still living the Bush Era. We call it Patriot Day now. Emergency responders and everyday citizens deserved the title Patriot on that day. Our government's response to 9/11 was not Patriotic.
For me 9/11 marked the end of the America I learned about in school. I worry for the children who do not remember an America before 9/11.
